Once again! New York Yankees got free agent players in off-season. This time, they got Sabathia, Teixeira, and Burnett, the three most attractive stars. New York has committed $423.5 million in salary in those deals, and they got the contracts, average 20 million per year.

According to USA TODAY report, Yankees’ 2009 payroll was $ 201,449,189, compared with Florida Marlins, the fewest payroll team, $ 36,834,000, almost 6 times. Did you feel a little unfair? That reminded me of a game, Royals vs. Yankees in 1999. That night, with about 3,000 Royals’ fans in Kauffman Stadium, they turned back against the fields, not watching the game when Yankees’ players hit, to protest against that unfair salary structure. Eventually, Royals won that game, but the problems are still there.

There has been a controversial issue about “salary cap” for a long time. Unlike other three professional leagues, MLB does not have any salary cap, but luxury tax.

Now that salary cap seems to maintain competing balance, why not put it into practice? This involves too many things, like tickets receipts, advertising revenue,

and all team's considerations. Moreover, poor teams may not be willing to spend money to buying players, while rich teams can continue to pay luxury taxes to get those superstars. So, until these issues can be resolved, salary cap may cause another strike only.

之前應徵工作寫得文章,有空再翻譯回來。

內容大概是關於美國職棒MLB沒有薪資上限的批評。
